Description

Solomon Islands 5 Dollars — “For World Peace”: Mother Teresa and Pope John Paul II 2010 Gold, Proof CIT Coin Invest Trust 11.00 mm; 0.50 g Actual gold weight: 0.0161 troy oz. KM# 119 Mintage: 10,000 PCGS PR69 Deep Cameo Issued for the Solomon Islands in 2010, this miniature gold proof commemorates Mother Teresa (1910–1997) and Pope John Paul II (1920–2005) under the theme “For World Peace.” The two were prominent international figures in twentieth-century Roman Catholicism and met on several occasions, including during John Paul II’s 1986 visit to Mother Teresa’s work in Kolkata. The reverse depicts Mother Teresa in the foreground with John Paul II standing behind her, his hand resting on her shoulder. A dove appears above them beneath the inscription FOR WORLD PEACE. The denomination 5 DOLLARS appears below. The composition uses the dove as a conventional emblem of peace while presenting the two figures together as representatives of Catholic humanitarian and religious activity. The obverse bears a right-facing portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, surrounded by the inscription ELIZABETH II / SOLOMON ISLANDS, with the date 2010 below. The portrait reflects Elizabeth II’s constitutional position at the time as Queen of the Solomon Islands. Although denominated at five Solomon Islands dollars, the piece was issued as a non-circulating collector coin. At only 11 mm in diameter and 0.50 g, the coin is substantially smaller than most circulating coins. It contains approximately 0.0161 troy ounce of gold. The reported maximum mintage is 10,000 pieces. The issue was produced through CIT Coin Invest Trust as part of the modern commemorative-coin market. This example is certified PCGS PR69 Deep Cameo. The PR69 grade indicates a proof coin with only a very minor imperfection preventing the maximum PR70 grade. The Deep Cameo designation refers to the pronounced contrast between the frosted portraits and devices and the highly reflective fields, clearly visible on this example. Provenance: Heritage Auctions, September 3, 2026; realized $170.80 including buyer’s premium.
