MalachiteDescription
Malachite is a basic copper carbonate mineral, Cu₂CO₃(OH)₂, that forms principally in the oxidized zones of copper deposits. Its green coloration results from copper in its chemical structure. It commonly occurs as botryoidal, fibrous, stalactitic, or massive material and is frequently associated with azurite and other secondary copper minerals. The specimen shown retains a natural mineral-growth form.
