Patricia Ann Brown was born in Austin, Texas, and educated at the University of Texas and the Cleveland Institute of Art, where she received the George Gund Award for Drawing and a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. These awards enabled her to travel extensively in the United States and Europe, and later to live and work abroad in Istanbul and Lahore, with further travel throughout Turkey, Pakistan, India, Afghanistan, and Kashmir.
After returning to Austin, Brown became a prominent artist and decorative painter, founding Beau Faux Studio and teaching a generation of artisans. Her work appears in numerous private homes and public spaces, including the Austin Women’s Club, the Texas State Capitol, and Festival Hill Concert Hall in Round Top. Although highly accomplished, Brown avoided self-promotion and worked primarily within close artistic and social communities.Create Date
