Peter Pan Production Drawing (Peter Pan)
Production drawing for Peter Pan
Walt Disney Productions
1953
Graphite pencil on 16-field, 3-peghole animation paper
This original animation drawing features Peter Pan from Disney’s 1953 animated feature Peter Pan. The drawing was created for a scene appearing at approximately the 57:06 mark of the film, in which Peter flies around Wendy Darling following his return from an evening with the Neverland Indian Tribe. The sequence highlights Peter’s attempt to regain Wendy’s attention and underscores the character’s expressive movement and personality.
Rendered in graphite pencil, the drawing demonstrates the use of arcing motion, a foundational principle of animation that emphasizes fluid, natural movement. Light guideline marks at Peter’s hand and foot indicate the intended path of motion through space. The character measures approximately 7 × 5 inches within the image area. The sheet is numbered as part of the production sequence in the lower right corner.
Produced during a pivotal moment in Disney animation history, Peter Pan was the last film on which all members of Walt Disney’s “Nine Old Men” worked together as directing animators, with Milt Kahl supervising the animation of Peter Pan. Drawings such as this document the collaborative and process-driven nature of mid-twentieth-century studio animation.
Condition: Very Good; minor handling and edge wear with light age-related toning, consistent with studio production use.Create Date
