Description

19th-century baby carriage. Restored. No makers mark/plaque, but possibly by Heywood-Wakefield c.1870. Owned by Dexter family, who had an antique business at corner of Pine Island Road and Marion Road in Mattapoisett. Given by Betsy Ose in loving memory of her parents, Arlene C. Dexter and William Nye Dexter, who restored it in the 1960s. It was originally owned by her great grandmother and grandfather, Betsy Roundville Nye Dexter and Alexander Dexter, whose children used in in the 1860s - 1880s. William Nye Dexter was the grandson of Betsy Nye and Alexander Dexter, of Brooklyn NY and Mattapoisett, who were married July 28th, 1856, a year before Mattapoisett was incorporated as a town.
