Description

Large samp mortar and pestle. It was owned by Aunt Massy, an elderly Native American woman. She lived at Captain Nathaniel Hammond's house, and eventually died there in the early 1800s. The mortar and pestle stayed in the attic of the Hammond house for many years before being given to the Mattapoisett Library.
