The Morning Mercury. Vol. 68. New Bedford, Mass, Wednesday, January 4, 1899. From Mattapoisett: Pliney A. Allen, Jr., a student of Tufts divinity school, who has been spending his vacation with his parents in town supplied the pulpit at the Universalist church Sunday afternoon. Missess Hattie and Elizabeth Shaw entertained a large party of their friends at their home on North Street Monday evening. Refreshements were served and a series of progressive games played, at which Mr. and Mrs. Charles Mendell proved most successful, winning the first prizes. Mrs. Sylvanus F. Swift, of this town, has a paper cutter in the shape of a knife made from drift wood markerd Portland, that came ashore on Cape Cod. Mrs. Mary Weaver, of Boston, is visiting her mother, Mrs. Johanna Akins. Mrs. Rhoda Davis, of North Falmouth, is visiting her brother S. F. Swift.Collection
