Letter to Capt. Cornelius S. Howland (Amer: Ship Wm & Eliza) care Mrss. Low & Smith, Gottenburgh (Gothenburg, Sweden) from Thomas Dickason & Co.
Sir,
We have before us your letter of 28th last month informin us that to avoid being captured by the Danes you had put into Gottenburgh which is confirmed by our Friend Mrss Low & Smith.
You ask our adivce what farther to do under present circumstances, which we should be happy to communicate from the intricacy we are unequal to the task.
We fear the Danes or Russians, would capture the Ship, if she went up the Baltic, on pretence of her having been in Sweden. Low & Smith are of opinion the best thing to be done will be to take Iron for America and most probably they judge right, but as the proceeds of your cargo in will greatly exceed the cost of the outward, we should recommend you loremit (?) as much as you can to this place in good bills, while you remain in port.
Mr Benjamin Rotch at Milford shall be informed of your situation, who we think will write if he can point out anything that will benefit his Family Interest. We are your very humble servants, Thomas Dickason & Co. P. S. In endorsment of Bills, be careful to write our name correctly. (Duplicate)Collection
