Notes: August 30, 1857 Mers j "Holmes" jr. & Bro. i am now at fi all [Fayal] i spose you wud like to have frome me on sum oil i am sorrey to rite you that i have not got no more to send home then i have if i had the same gou that i had last voige i thinke i shod had 30 bbls i had sum mist and sum kot of and sum run a way with thame that struck a large whale and wos was fast 7 ours and kot of at 9 oclock at nite and got a long side at 4 in the morning i worket the docke ol nite in a de cam thinking to se the whale him by byt no whale i have sene whales 8 times and lard 6 times and strucks and got 6 little wales it send that if it was not wane thig it was a nother but i am in hope to du better i have ship a new boat sten hear an sum men i have sent home draft frome florres the a mount $89.00 for fro vision ye have had a havy gale a round the ilens i was a 120 miles NNW i did me to crues but the blow was so harde i thote it no in thane has hen most all the ships ract more or les some lost thane mast most all lost those sales more or les i lost nothing lorn out all nite but it was harde gale tha say for the last 50 years i ex spect a letter frome you heare but non i shal be short of bread i ex spect a muy to make up 5 1/2 bbls a month i am wel an all the rest i belen i want one 16 teenth of the ship an no more i am not able to kake no more pleas rite i have fot an shone at fial 2106 gallons of sperme oil marke is B. brewster i don't no as yo kan read this.
