Scope and Content

Supporting documents for the genealogy of Mrs. Charles Hamlin in the form of documents regarding Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Document (1640) describing the election of Assistant Governor at Portsmouth, N.H. and a deed of fifty acres of land for a glebe. Document (1655) for the inhabitants to agree to a continuation of a Mr. Browne as a minister. Document (1656) a town meeting on April 14th mentions that Mr. Sherburne promises to entertain Mr.Browne. On October 27th, a vote to invite Mr. Samuel Dudley, son of the Gov. of Mass. to be the minister for a pay of 80 pounds a year. Document (1657) James Henry Sherburne chosen to be Clerk of the County Court and Richard Cutt the Associate. Document (1669) to support Harvard University by collecting subscriptions which amounted to sixty pounds and the pledge to pay that annually for seven years.
