This rifle was used in the Spanish American War, 1898, in the Philippines by a son of Fredrick Washburn of New Bedford, on elf the trustees of Tabor Academy. Rifle given to donor, John Bates, by brother Charles Washburn. Fredrick Washburn's name was given to a Tabor dorm built in 1903-1904.
