This is one of two modern Hawaiian wooden carvings of Hawaiian god images. Both are carved in the recogniseable Kona style - with grimacing expressions, thick, short bodies, and flexed arms and legs. Each sculptue is also reaised on a square base with deep chevron grooves, carved from the same tree trunk as the god image.
This treasured piece has been in the Mauna Kea's collection since 1965, when Laurance Rockefeller developed the hotel, and was very recently restored.Made/Created
