Description

This large, domed brass parrot cage, crafted in Hong Kong, serves as the elegant nighttime sanctuary for Mango, our resident Macaw. During the sunlit hours, Mango is often found perched in the tree beside the Manta Restaurant courtyard, but each evening he returns to this gleaming brass cage, where intricate lines and airy proportions evoke both classic craftsmanship and modern design. The cage stands not only as a functional home, but as a subtle homage to the cultural art of bird keeping in East Asia, especially in Hong Kong, connecting the daily life of our vibrant Macaw to a broader tradition of companion birds. This treasured piece has been in the Mauna Kea's collection since 1965, when Laurance Rockefeller developed the hotel, and was very recently restored.
