Myanma (Burmese) Water Jug

Name/Title

Myanma (Burmese) Water Jug

Entry/Object ID

Description

Find here a modern earthenware water jar, crafted in Myanmar (formerly known as Burma). Its burnished brown finish and tiered ring design are typical of traditional Myanma potterly, while the expressive, crenelated rims reflect the artist's modern tastes. A round spigot opening towards the base indicates the jar's practical use, providing water to its owner. This treasured piece has been in the Mauna Kea's collection since 1965, when Laurance Rockefeller developed the hotel. Guests present at the opening of the hotel would have seen this piece displayed in the Kauna'oa Ballroom. It was later in storage for many decades before it was restored and placed on display within the hotel once more early in 2025.
