Description

This figured & fancy coverlet was manufactured by Fehr & Keck in Emaus, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania in 1847. The two cornerblocks read "Manufactored by Fehr & Keck, Emaus 1847." The coverlet was woven full-width and has no center seam. It has a centerfield pattern of floral medallions with leaf crosses and small heart motifs; the pattern repeats horizontally four times. It has a flower vine border on the sides and bottom. The coverlet has horizontal color stripes of red, dark green, and light green wool on undyed cotton ground with applied fringe on the sides and bottom. The tied Beiderwand weave structure uses undyed cotton tie-down threads in a 3:1 warp ratio.
