This figured & fancy coverlet was woven by Henry Mater in Fremont, Ohio in 1851. The two bottom cornerblocks read "Made by H. Mater, Fremont Ohio 1851" in a box around a four-leaf logo. They are partially repeated, but cut off, in the top corners. The coverlet was woven in two panels, which are joined by a center seam. It has a centerfield pattern with lily and snowflake motifs that repeats horizontally three times. It has a distelfink and floral border on the sides. The bottom border with eagles, grapevines, and roses is partially repeated on the top edge. The coverlet has horizontal color stripes of red and dark blue wool on undyed cotton ground with self-fringe on the sides and bottom. The tied Beiderwand weave structure uses light blue cotton tie-down threads in a 2:1 warp ratio.Collection
