Description

This geometric overshot coverlet is attributed to New York state. A pickup-woven inscription in the lower left corner reads "C.M. 1826." The coverlet was woven in two panels, which are joined by a center seam. It has geometric borders on the sides and bottom, with no fringe. The overshot (floatwork) weave structure uses combines undyed cotton plainweave ground cloth with dark blue pattern weft. It has four blocks and requires a 4-shaft loom. The 'Wheel of Fortune' pattern combines X's and O's.
