This figured & fancy coverlet was woven on Long Island, New York in 1824. It predates the use of Jacquard devices in America. The four cornerblocks use a reclining cow logo with the woven inscription "1824." One cornerblock also contains the embroidered initials "M. H." The coverlet was woven full-width and has no center seam. It has a centerfield pattern with floral wreath medallions and leafy secondary motifs, which repeats horizontally five times. It has a narrow tulip border on all four sides. The doubleweave structure combines a layer of undyed cotton with a layer of dark blue wool. It has no fringe.Collection
