This figured & fancy coverlet was woven by William Ney in Lebanon County, Pennsylvania in 1850. The inscription in each of the four corners reads "W. Ney 1850" under a large flowerpot, which connects seamlessly to floral vine borders. The coverlet was woven full-width with no center seam. It has a center medallion pattern with a large central star in a wreath of flowers and leaves on a basketweave background. The coverlet has horizontal color stripes of red, dark blue, and green wool on undyed cotton ground with applied fringe on the sides and bottom. The tied Beiderwand weave structure uses undyed cotton tie-down threads in a 3:1 warp ratio.Collection
