This figured & fancy coverlet was woven in 1864, likely in Ohio state. The cornerblocks read "1864 MAD" mirrored and repeated four times. The coverlet was woven in two panels, which are joined by a center seam. It has a centerfield pattern of floral cross medallions in leaf wreaths, surrounded by abstract scrollwork; the pattern repeats horizontally three times. It has a double grapevine border on the sides and bottom, which connects with the flowerpots in the cornerblock. The coverlet has a dark blue wool pattern on undyed cotton ground with applied fringe on the sides and bottom. The tied Beiderwand weave structure uses undyed cotton tie-down threads in a 2:1 warp ratio.Collection
