This figured & fancy coverlet was manufactured by George C. Smith in Allentown, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania in 1849. The large urns in the four corners are inscribed "Manufackturi. George O. Smith PF1" The coverlet was woven full-width and has no center seam. It has a center medallion pattern with a large central star surrounded by a ring of flowers and grapes, with eight large flowerpots around the outside. It has a narrow geometric border on all four edges. The coverlet has horizontal color stripes of red, brown, and green wool on undyed cotton ground with applied fringe on three sides. The true Beiderwand weave structure uses blue cotton tie-down threads in a 3:1 warp ratio.Collection
