2017.1.128Description
This figured & fancy coverlet was likely power-woven in a Pennsylvania manufactory ca. 1850-1880. It has pinwheel motifs in the four corners and no inscription.
The coverlet was woven full-width and has no center seam. It has a center medallion pattern with a central star in a floral wreath, with eagles in the four corners and an elaborate floral border on all sides. The coverlet has horizontal stripes of red and teal wool pattern weft on undyed cotton ground with self-fringe on the sides and applied fringe on the bottom. The power-woven tied Beiderwand weave structure uses undyed cotton tie-down threads in a 4:1 warp ratio.Collection
