Description

This figured & fancy coverlet was woven by Michael Eichman in Juniata County, Pennsylvania in 1842. The two cornerblocks read "Michael Eichman Juneata Co. Penn 1842." The coverlet was woven full-width and has no center seam. It has a patchwork centerfield pattern of star medallions, lilies, and octagonal floral motifs; the pattern repeats horizontally four times. It has a flower basket border on the sides and bottom. The coverlet has horizontal color stripes of red and green wool on undyed cotton ground with self-fringe on the sides and bottom. The tied Beiderwand weave structure uses blue cotton tie-down threads in a 2:1 warp ratio.
