This figured & fancy coverlet was woven by John Brosey in Robeson Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania for E. Eberly in 1851. The two cornerblocks read "J. Brosey" three times under a 3x3 grid of geometric dogpaw motifs. The inscription "E. Eberly 1851" repeats across the bottom border.
The coverlet was woven in two panels, which are joined by a center seam. It has a floral centerfield pattern of large floral medallions and secondary tulip or bluebell motifs; the pattern repeats horizontally three times. It has a triple border on the sides and bottom of an elongated lattice forming lozenge and diamond shapes with stylized leaves. The coverlet has horizontal color stripes of red, dark blue, and teal wool on undyed cotton ground with self-fringe on the sides and a hemmed bottom with no fringe. The tied Beiderwand weave structure uses blue cotton supplementary tie-down threads in a 2:1 warp ratio.Collection
