This figured & fancy coverlet was woven by Leonard Metz in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania for E. Zupplee (possibly Supplee) in 1844. The two cornerblocks read "Made by L. Metz Montgomery Co. PA E. Zupplee 1844." The coverlet was woven full-width and has no center seam. It has a "double rose" centerfield pattern of rose clusters in a grid with floral diamond secondary motifs, which repeats horizontally four times. It has a border of tulip trees on the sides and bottom, edged with diamonds. The coverlet has horizontal color stripes of red, dark blue, and green wool on undyed cotton ground with applied fringe on three sides. The tied Beiderwand weave structure uses undyed cotton tie-down threads in a 3:1 warp ratio.Collection
