Geometric coverlet, block twill

Name/Title

Geometric coverlet, block twill

Entry/Object ID

2017.1.047

Description

Geometric block twill coverlet with straight draw borders on the sides and bottom, with no fringe. Large and small table motifs combine to create the illusion of large circles in the centerfield pattern. This geometric coverlet was woven in two panels, which are joined by a center seam. The seam does not match in the top third of the coverlet because of a mistake in the treadling sequence in the left panel. The block twill weave structure combines undyed cotton warp with dark blue wool weft. The pattern has four blocks and requires a 12-shaft loom.
