This figured & fancy coverlet was woven by Gotlieb Rottman in New Bedford, Coshocton County, Ohio. It is undated. The two cornerblocks read "G. Rottman" with an eagle logo. The coverlet was woven in two panels, which are joined by a center seam. It has a centerfield pattern of leaf medallions in a grid with secondary diamond motifs, which repeats horizontally four times. It has a solid rose border on the sides and bottom. The coverlet has horizontal color stripes of red, dark blue, and green wool on undyed cotton ground with self-fringe on the sides; the original self-fringe on the bottom has nearly entirely worn away, and the bottom edge has been secured by a machine zig-zag stitch. The tied Beiderwand weave structure uses undyed cotton tie-down threads in a 4:1 warp ratio.Collection
