This figured & fancy coverlet was woven by Jacob and Michael Ardner in Mount Vernon, Knox County, Ohio in 1852. The two cornerblocks read "W[oven] in Mount Vernon, Knox County, Ohio by Jacob and Michail Ardner, 1852."
The coverlet was woven in two panels, which are joined by a center seam. It has a centerfield pattern of petaled medallions that repeats horizontally four times. It has a grapevine border on the sides and different grapevine border on the bottom. The coverlet has horizontal color stripes of orange and gold wool on undyed cotton ground with self-fringe on the sides and bottom. The tied Beiderwand weave structure uses light blue cotton tie-down threads in a 2:1 warp ratio.Collection
