This figured & fancy coverlet was woven by J. M. Kostner in Lewisville, Coshocton County, Ohio in 1844. The two cornerblocks read "Made by J. M. Kostner Lewisvil Coshoc Co Ohio 1844."
The coverlet was woven in two panels, which are joined by a center seam. It has a floral centerfield pattern with large curling leaves and 24-point rosettes; the pattern repeats horizontally four times. The coverlet has borders of roosters and bunting on the sides and bottom, edged with a row of small blossoms. The coverlet has horizontal color stripes of red, dark blue, and gold wool on undyed cotton ground with applied fringe on the sides and bottom. The tied Beiderwand weave structure uses tan cotton tie-down threads in a 2:1 warp ratio.Collection
