New York coverlet (attr.), doubleweaveEntry/Object ID
2008.1.375Description
This figured & fancy coverlet was likely woven in New York, based on the pattern and weaving style. It has no inscription.
The coverlet was woven in two panels, which are joined by a center seam. It has an ornate floral center medallion pattern with four urns in the cardinal directions. The coverlet no fringe. The power-woven doubleweave structure combines a balanced layer of undyed cotton warp and weft with a balanced layer of red wool warp and weft. The red yarns are twice as thick as the cotton yarns.Collection
