Geometric coverlet, doubleweaveEntry/Object ID
2017.1.181Description
Geometric doubleweave coverlet with a blocky diamond pattern and narrow borders on the sides and bottom. This coverlet was woven in two panels, which are joined by a center seam. It has no fringe. The doubleweave structure combines a layer of dark blue wool with a layer of undyed cotton. The pattern has four blocks and requires a 16-shaft loom.
A 3 ply cotton yarn is used every tenth thread for half the width of each panel. This means the warp was probably wound with the aid of a warping paddle. A 3-ply cotton is also used for a small section in the waft.Collection
