Description

This figured & fancy coverlet was manufactured by Abraham and Thomas Fehr in Emaus, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania. The inscription along the bottom border reads, "Manufactored by A. & T. Fehr in Emaus Lehigh County Pennsylvania." The coverlet was woven full-width and has no center seam. It has a large centerfield pattern of curling leaf flowers with rosette motifs; the pattern repeats horizontally two times. It has borders of flowers and curling leaves on the sides and bottom with an outer edge of figure-of-eight motifs. The coverlet has horizontal color stripes of red and green wool on undyed cotton ground with applied fringe on the sides and bottom. The tied Beiderwand weave structure uses undyed cotton tie-down threads in a 3:1 warp ratio.
