This figured & fancy coverlet was woven by Peter Diller in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania for Mary A. Line in 1846. The two cornerblocks read "Mary A. Line 1846 P. Diller weaver." The coverlet was woven in two panels, which are joined by a center seam. It has a patchwork centerfield pattern of stars, double roses, and double tulips; the full pattern repeats horizontally four and a half times. The coverlet has an architectural border on the sides, edged with a double row of stars, and a different architectural border on the bottom with tiny buildings and flowerpots. The coverlet has horizontal color stripes of red, dark blue, and dark green wool on undyed cotton ground with self-fringe on the sides and bottom. The tied Beiderwand weave structure uses light blue cotton tie-down threads in a 2:1 warp ratio.Collection
