This figured & fancy coverlet was woven by Robert Alexander in Canfield, Ohio at some point after he moved there in 1849. The two cornerblocks read "Robert Alexander Canfield Ohio" with a three-dimensional building trademark. The coverlet was woven full-width and has no center seam. It has a floral centerfield pattern of doubled floral motifs with smaller flowers and vines; the pattern repeats horizontally four times. The coverlet has an architectural border on the sides with American flags, and bottom border with dogs and men on horseback. The coverlet has horizontal color stripes of red and dark blue wool on undyed cotton ground with self-fringe on the sides and bottom. The tied Beiderwand weave structure uses undyed cotton tie-down threads in a 2:1 warp ratio.Collection
