This figured & fancy coverlet was woven by Charles Wiand in Allentown, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania in 1856. The two different cornerblocks read "Make [sic] by C. Wiand Allentown 1856" and "Make by C. Wiand Allentown." The coverlet was woven full-width with no center seam. It has a center medallion pattern with an ornate scrollwork center in a ring of large triangular grape leaves on a triangle-check background. It has floral borders of large leaves and flowers. The coverlet has a red wool pattern on undyed cotton ground with applied fringe on the sides and bottom. The tied Beiderwand weave structure uses undyed cotton tie-down threads in a 3:1 warp ratio.Collection
