This figured & fancy coverlet was likely woven in a Pennsylvania manufactory ca. 1850-1870. It has no inscription. The coverlet was woven full-width with no center seam. It has a center medallion pattern with four large shielded eagles surrounding a central star in a ring. The coverlet has horizontal color stripes of red and green wool on blue cotton ground with self-fringe on the sides and applied fringe on the bottom. The doubleweave structure combines a relatively balanced layer of blue cotton warp & weft with an unbalanced layer of thin blue warp with red and green wool weft.Collection
