This figured & fancy coverlet was likely woven in a Pennsylvania manufactory ca. 1850-1880. It has no inscription. The coverlet was woven full-width with no center seam. It has a center medallion pattern with four large shielded eagles surrounding a central star in a ring. The coverlet has self-fringe on the sides and applied fringe on the bottom. The power-woven doubleweave structure has a relatively balanced ground layer of blue cotton warp and weft. The unbalanced pattern layer combines widely-spaced thin blue warp with red and green wool weft, making horizontal color stripes.Collection
