This figured & fancy coverlet was woven by John S. Goodman in Black Creek, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania in 1849. The two cornerblocks read "Made by John S. Goodman Black Creek Luzerne Co. for [client blank] PENN 1849." The coverlet was woven full-width and has no center seam. It has a centerfield pattern with tulip medallions and stars, which repeats horizontally four times. It has a distelfink & rosebush border on the sides and bottom. The coverlet has a dark blue wool pattern on undyed cotton ground with applied fringe on the sides and bottom. The tied Beiderwand weave structure uses light blue cotton tie-down threads in a 2:1 warp ratio.Collection
