This figured & fancy coverlet was woven by John Wildin in York County, Pennsylvania in 1839. The inscription on the bottom edge reads "John Wildin York 1839." The coverlet was woven in two panels, which are joined by a center seam. It has a patchwork centerfield pattern of stars and potted plants, which repeats horizontally 3.5 times. The side borders have birds (perhaps storks and ducks) on long boats or rafts, interspersed with oak leaves and acorns. The bottom border is a partial repeat of the centerfield pattern; there are no cornerblocks. It is partially interrupted by the weaver's signature. The coverlet has horizontal color stripes of red, dark blue, and green wool on undyed cotton ground with self-fringe on the sides and bottom. The tied Beiderwand weave structure uses undyed cotton tie-down threads in a 2:1 warp ratio.Collection
