This figured & fancy coverlet was manufactured by Archibald Davidson in Ithaca, Tompkins County, New York in 1842. The two cornerblocks read "Woven at the Ithaca Carpet Factory by A. Davidson 1842.."
The coverlet was woven in two panels, which are joined by a center seam. It has an intricate floral centerfield pattern with birds of paradise, which repeats horizontally four times. It has symmetrical floral borders on the sides and bottom. The doubleweave structure combines a layer of undyed cotton with a layer of dark blue wool. It has no fringe.Collection
