Pennsylvania coverlet (attr.), true beiderwand; pigeon logo
Entry/Object ID
2008.1.357
Description
This figured & fancy coverlet was likely power-woven in southeastern Pennsylvania. It has a pigeon-like bird logo in the two cornerblocks, with no textual inscription.
The coverlet was woven full-width and has no center seam. It has a floral tile centerfield pattern with small diamond motifs; the pattern repeats horizontally four times. It has a floral border on the sides and bottom. The coverlet has horizontal color stripes of red and green wool (two shades of each) on undyed cotton ground. It has self-fringe on the sides and applied fringe on the bottom. The true Beiderwand weave structure uses undyed supplementary cotton tie-down threads in a 2:1 warp ratio.
