This figured & fancy coverlet has small floral cornerblocks that repeat twice in the bottom corners. The coverlet was woven in two panels, which are joined by a center seam. It has a centerfield pattern, repeated horizontally three times, of doubled rose medallions in rings of tiny heads in profile. The portraits are said to be an abolitionist figure, and the small chain motifs representative of the anti-slavery movement. The coverlet has borders of floral grape urns, repeated twice on the sides and once on the bottom. The doubleweave structure combines a layer of undyed cotton with a layer of dark blue wool. It has self-fringe on the bottom edge.Collection
