Description
This figured & fancy coverlet was woven by Harry Tyler in Jefferson County, New York for Maria E. Biddlecum in 1841. The two cornerblocks read "Maria E. Biddlecum 1841" with a large lion logo, and the inscription "Jefferson Co. NY" runs along the inner edge of the side borders.
The coverlet was woven in two panels, which are joined by a center seam. It has a centerfield pattern of stars and flowers, which repeats horizontally three times. It has borders of trees and picket fences on the sides and bottom. The doubleweave structure combines a layer of undyed cotton with a layer of dark blue wool. It has no fringe.
