Description

This figured & fancy coverlet was woven in Ulster County, New York. A border inscription on the top and bottom edges reads "Libertyville Ulster County N.Y.", mirrored from side to side of the coverlet. The coverlet was woven full-width and has no center seam. It has a floral center medallion pattern with four eagles in a center ring. The eagles hold banners reading "E Pluribus Unum." The initials "S[?]S" plus a small "X" are embroidered in pink thread at one end in center. The doubleweave structure combines a layer of undyed cotton with a layer of red wool.
