Description

Figured coverlet; blue cotton and red, teal blue, and ochre wool, tied double cloth (Beiderwand). Center seam joins two panels. Selvedges on either side; hemmed top and bottom. The central motif consists of a stylized floral and foliage design done in stripes of ochre, red and teal on a blue background. The flowers and leaves are joined by a graceful arabesque design. Border on sides and bottom have a double row of vining flowers and leaves similar to those in the field, but on a smaller scale. Corner blocks contain sixteen-pointed stars.
