Description

This figured & fancy coverlet was likely woven ca. 1850-1870. It has no inscription. The coverlet was woven full-width with no center seam. It has a center medallion pattern with elaborate borders of leaves, deer, and buildings. The coverlet has self-fringe on both ends; one side is hemmed, while the other is frayed. The doubleweave structure combines a balanced layer of purple wool with a balanced layer of olive green wool. The dye is uneven and the coverlet has been patched.
