Description

This figured & fancy coverlet was woven by in New York. The two cornerblocks read "Agriculture and manufactures are the foundation of our independence" with a two-leafed flower. The coverlet was woven in two panels, which are joined by a center seam. It has a large floral medallion pattern in the centerfield that repeats horizontally twice. It has borders on the sides and bottom with shielded eagles, stars, clovers, capitol buildings, and masonic symbols including monkeys, columns, and compasses. The doubleweave structure combines a layer of undyed cotton with a layer of dark blue wool. It has no fringe.
