Description

This figured & fancy coverlet was woven by Henry F. Stager in Mount Joy, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The inscription along the bottom border reads "M. by H Stager Mount Joy Lancaster Co. PA, Warranted Fast Colors No.1." It repeats twice, mirrored on each half. The cornerblocks have a floral logo. The coverlet was woven full-width with no center seam. It has a center medallion pattern with a wreath of oak leaves within an octagon within a rectangle. It has large borders of leaves and grapevines around all four sides. The coverlet has horizontal color stripes of red, orange, tan, and green wool on undyed cotton ground with self-fringe on the sides and applied fringe on the bottom. The tied Beiderwand weave structure uses blue cotton tie-down threads in a 3:1 warp ratio.
