This figured & fancy coverlet was woven by John Kaufman in Hilltown, Bucks County, Pennsylvania for Anna Overholt in 1842. The two cornerblocks read "Anna Overholt John Kaufman 1842." The coverlet was woven in two panels, which are joined by a center seam. It has centerfield pattern of sunbursts with floral medallions, which repeats horizontally four times. It has a border of federal eagles on the sides and distelfinks with trees on the bottom, with an edge of double stars outside of each border. The coverlet has horizontal color stripes of red, dark blue, and green wool on undyed cotton ground with applied fringe on the sides and bottom. The tied Beiderwand weave structure uses blue cotton supplementary tie-down threads in a 2:1 warp ratio.Collection
