double weave; navy and natural; two loom widths joined; fringe on bottom; floral and diamond pattern centerfield; tree border motif on 3 sides; signature corner blocks; fringe on bottom edge This figured & fancy coverlet was woven by George Deterich in Lansing, Tompkins County, New York for a client with initials S. T. in 1831. The two cornerblocks read "S. T. Lansing 1831 G. Deterich." The coverlet was woven in two panels, which are joined by a center seam. It has a "Lilies of France" centerfield pattern with diamond secondary motifs, which repeats horizontally four times. It has tree borders on the sides and bottom. The doubleweave structure combines a layer of undyed cotton with a layer of dark blue wool. It has self-fringe on the bottom edge.Collection
