Description

Jacquard Double weave 3 edges self-fringe, 1 hemmed Hempfield Railroad Figured and fancy doubleweave coverlet with borders on 3 sides and self fringe on 3 sides. Two panels joined by a center seam./Woven full-width; seamless. Blue and red wool with undyed cotton. Floral centerfield pattern; train border on sides and on bottom. Woven by unknown weaver for unknown client in with Hempfield Railroad logo.

Context

The Hempfield Railroad was began in 1851 and designed to connect Wheeling, Virginia (current West Virginia) to Washington, Pennsylvania.
